The New Me

Good news, I will no longer be Spinster in the City anymore!---Haha, No I'm not getting married, but I am moving, so instead of being Spinster in Salt Lake City I will be a spinster in another place! I'm moving to the LA area for a great job and I couldn't be happier. I'm excited by all my new possiblities (including a new dating pool!). So things are really looking up for me, wish me luck! (Oh and I'll continue to write because, of course, you will want to hear about all my new spinster adventures in Lala land.)

I just wanted to say that I happened upon your blog. I find it very interesting! I am a single mother. So not sure you would consider me a spinster since I've been married, but I am very much alone and left the church because of the family wards. I can't go to singles wards because of my daughter. I can relate to so many of your posts! I enjoy reading!

Hi Amanda, I'm glad you like my blog and can relate to it. I think women that have been divorced and spinsters have a lot of the same concerns. We are both trying to navigate the world to a large extent by ourselves and often it's not an easy task. While I do think family wards can be hard on single people, I don't dislike them. It's just the particular family ward I went to was difficult. I'm sure another may have been much better. Have you tried a different family ward? Have you told the bishop your concerns? Sometimes it really just takes one person reaching out to feel comfortable in a ward, too bad some people are too insular. Well don't give up and please continue to read and comment! I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks, SITC

I love living in L.A. I'm not sure it's easier to date here, because people spend so much time alone in their cars. But moving shakes things up. We're more vulnerable because we don't have all our systems in place. When I arrived in LA after years of living in San Francisco, it forced me to try new things in order to meet people. And that's a great thing!

I would love to hear your take on what I'll call "getting a new picture". For many of us, we grew up thinking we needed to have the Ensign cover picture of the husband and wife and two kids to be happy.

How do we get a new picture of what our fulfilled lives look like?

Shantell,
I really like that question and I'm going to give it some good thought and post soon. Also if you'd ever like to write something and be a guest poster, let me know. I like to hear a lot of different views on spinsterhood.
Thanks,
